DIXON - Lois Gene Nicklaus 87 of Dixon, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Dixon Healthcare.
Gene was born at home in Sterling, IL on April 13, 1930. The daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Finkle) White. “Gene” is what she was called all of her life.
Gene graduated from Polo High School in 1948. She worked at Freeman Shoes in Dixon, Dixon Publishing and retired from Borg Warner in Dixon after many years of service. One of Gene’s favorite things to do was being outdoors. She was passionate about gardening and planting anything plantable. Her yard was a reflection of this. She also had a caring heart for animals. She supported the Human Society and local shelters.
Survivors include one sister, Carmie (Larry) Franklin of Freeport, and brother, Van White of Dixon; brother-in-law Joseph (Sonny) Burge of Polo; nieces, Carla (Brian) Myers of Freeport and Lauri (Franklin) Heyob of Maple Park; several great nephews; co-worker and great friend, Mary Cleaver of Dixon; and her two special cats, Puff and Ole Gray.
Preceding Gene in death are her parents, one sister Bebe Burge, and one nephew.
Cremation rights have been accorded by Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 1121 N. Galena Avenue, Dixon, Illinois.
