Melba J. Potts

         Melba J. Potts, 93, of Dixon, died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Heritage Woods in Sterling.

         Melba "Mickey"was born August 11, 1926 in Dixon the daughter of Burel and Ola (Reeves) Branson. She graduated from Dixon High School with the class of 1944 as Co-Valedictorian. On April 24, 1947 she married Kenneth C. Potts in Dixon. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1973. Mickey was employed as a chemist at the Dixon State School and also did bookkeeping and accounting for various Dixon businesses. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dixon where she became one of the first woman Deacons. Mickey lived her life in service to others as a Dixon Lioness, member of the White Cross and served Meals on Wheels for many years.

         Survivors include her children, Ken (Tammy) Potts of Downers Grove, IL, Jane Potts of Springfield, IL, Joanne (Jeff) Wickenhauser of Kirkwood, MO., Jean (Roger) Hulvey of Mt. Sterling, IL and Jim (Victoria) Potts of Milton, GA.; sister-in-law Betty Potts of Dixon; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

         She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Bud Branson; and one sister, Rita Holderman.

 

         A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Dixon with Reverends Bunyan and Rachel Cocar co-officiating.

         A memorial has been established to her beloved First Baptist Church in Dixon.
