Heaven gained a beautiful soul on the afternoon of October 18, 2024, when Betty Boehme (nee Hughes) took her last breath on this earth and her first breath with her Lord Jesus Christ, her savior since her teenage years. Betty was surrounded by the love of her family and loved ones at the Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center, and she was in the prayers of friends and family both near and afar.
Betty was born on April 27, 1927, in a small southern Illinois town. She was the daughter of John Otto and Ethel Hughes. Betty’s family first moved to Amboy and then Dixon, where she finished her high school education at Dixon High School.
Betty was a long-time resident of Dixon. It was in Dixon where she met and married her husband of 56 years, Richard Boehme, who preceded her in death.
Betty was an amazing, godly mother to six children: Robert (deceased) and wife Kathy Boehme, Dixon; Nelda (Jack, deceased) Deininger, Joliet; David (Linda) Boehme, Dixon; Cheryl (Ron) Zinke, Dixon; Don (Pam) Boehme, Rock Falls; and Brian (Cheryl) Boehme, Archer Lodge, NC. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Betty was a long-time member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Dixon, where she taught many children in Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Her heart desired to introduce Jesus to everyone she met; Jesus was the most important person in her life, and she longed for all her family, friends, and acquaintances to come to know Him as their own personal Lord and Savior.
A private family viewing will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 25, 2024, with a public graveside service celebrating Betty's life to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 1:30 PM.
