Darrell F. Moss

  Darrell F. Moss, 79, of Dixon, died at 12:50 PM Saturday (Feb. 1, 2014) at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL.

  He worked as a State Inspector for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 50 years and 10 months, retiring on Jan. 1, 2005. Before that he was on the survey crew for I.D.O.T.

  He was born on March 4, 1934 in Dixon to Eugene L. & Eva (Messer) Moss.  He married the former Esther “Marie” DeGroff on Feb. 12, 1960 at their home in Dixon.  She survives.

 He is also survived by daughters:  Linda Moss and Barbara (Kenneth Kennedy) Moss, both of Dixon.

  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Jean Moss on March 28, 1979; his father, Eugene Leo Moss in 1959; his mother, Eva Lucille Moss in 1955; his stepmother, Hazel Messer-Moss in 1987; sisters:  Bernadine Gerdes, Geraldine Wolf and Eva Lucille Moss; and a brother, Virgil Eugene Moss.

    He graduated from Dixon High School in 1953 and he also earned his P.C.I. certificate.  He served in the United States Army.  He was a lifelong member of the Dixon Church of the Brethren where he was on the church board for numerous terms.

  He also was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Troop 85 at the Church of the Brethren from 1979 till the present.

  Darrell enjoyed being in the outdoors, camping, watching campfires and watching birds and tending to his many bird feeders. 

  The world has lost a great man who is loved and will be missed by many.

  A visitation will be held from 4-7:30 PM Wednesday at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon.

  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Marty Creager officiating.

  Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park with full military rites by the combined Veterans organizations.

  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Dixon Church of the Brethren.
