Edwin Eugene "Tampa" King passed away at Tucson Medical Center on Saturday evening, August 31, 2013 at the age of 77 following a long bout with cancer. He was born on August 9, 1936 in Sterling, IL to Elmer and Marion King and was blessed with three younger brothers, Jim, Mac, and Denny King. On December 27, 1954 he married Sharon Brooks at the First Christian Church in Dixon, IL and never left her side for 58 years. He took two years of Fire Science courses in California and was a retired fire fighter from L.A. County Fire Department. Tampa’s hobbies and interests included spending time with family, enjoying the scenery of the desert, and watching college football and basketball, particularly the University of Arizona Wildcats. He is survived by his spouse Sharon, Tucson, AZ; 2 children Marleene Smith (Rocky), Dixon, IL and Natalie Lopez (Luis), Tucson, AZ; 3 grandchildren Adam Smith, Dixon, IL, Alison Asbury (Todd), Ft. Wayne, IN, Elyse Ranz, Dixon, IL and 2 step grandchildren Casey Lester, Rockford, IL and Spring Gallegos (Stephen), Rock Falls, IL; 3 great grandchildren and 3 great step grandchildren; and his pug puppy Odie, Tucson, AZ. Tampa was proceeded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 1 son Edwin King Jr.(Allie). A grave side service is planned for Saturday September 14, 2013 at Chapel Hill Cemetery at 10:30 am with Pastor Stan Rodabaugh officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
