Gerald E. Smith

  Gerald E. Smith, 84, formerly of Polo, passed away at 3:50 PM Sunday (August 30, 2015) at Riverwood Rehab in East Moline.

  He was born on October 7, 1930 in Darlington, WI to Layton & Bernice (Clinger) Smith.  He married the former JoAnne Scott on February 3, 1957.  She preceded him in death on May 2, 2007.

  He is survived by his children:  Susie Webster of Sterling, Scott (Judy) Smith of Sydney, OH, Julie (Bryon) Bowers of Polo and Todd Smith of Rockford; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a brother Carl Smith of Freeport.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

  He graduated from Lanark High School and then served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

  He retired as a milk delivery man from Muller-Pinehurst in Dixon.

  He had formerly been a member of the Jaycees for many years and also the Polo American Legion.

  Private graveside rites were held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon with Rev. Karen Hundrieser officiating.

  The Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon was in charge of the arrangements.
