Harold Toms, 88, of Polo, passed away at 2:28 PM Tuesday (December 30, 2014) at his residence.
He was born on October 4, 1926 in Pine Creek Twp to Cyrus & Frances (Portner) Toms. He married Beth Hoffman on April 18, 1973 at their home.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter: Rosy (Rodney Smith) Toms of Chadwick; 2 sons: John (Nancy) Toms of Illinois and Frederick (Polli) Toms of Brookville, IL; 6 grandchildren: Diamond Smith, Jacob Toms, Christian Toms-Smith, Izaac Toms- Smith, Micah Toms-Smith and Opal Toms: 1 great granddaughter: Zytaia Smith; brothers: LeRoy Toms of Polo, Robert (Darlene) Toms Sr. of Dixon and Burton (Anna Mae) Toms of Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Leon Toms, Clarence “Bud” Toms and Maurice “Bunt” Toms and one sister, Marietta Voltz.
He graduated from Polo High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a farmer in Polo and also did carpentry work and had formerly worked at Kraft and International Harvester. He also raised cattle and hogs.
Harold loved to go antiquing, loved to garden and enjoyed reading but his greatest love was his family especially his grandchildren “Bunkies”.
A visitation will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon and also from 10-11 AM Monday at Faith Discovery Church in Polo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday at Faith Discovery Church in Polo with Rev. Jeremy Heller and Rev. Greg Downs officiating.
Interment will full military rites by the Dixon combined military honors team will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Pallbearers will be: Rodney Smith, Jacob Toms, Rod Fink, Maurice Hale, Dan Johnson and Devin Johnson.
