Ima Jean (Watson) Spurgeon

DIXON – Ima Jean Spurgeon, 90, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.

Ima Jean was born June 9, 1926, in Wynona, Oklahoma, the daughter of Nathan B. and Etta Mae (Stricklin) Watson. She married Marvin Spurgeon on May 14, 1950, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death.

Jean was a 50-year member of Northside Baptist Church. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and bowler. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games, word searches, playing Scrabble, and always beating her opponents.

Sweet, loving, generous, and caring are just a few of the words that describe Jean. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all those who knew her.

Surviving are two sons, Danny L. Spurgeon of Dixon and Timothy P. (Julie) Spurgeon of Dixon; one daughter, Debra J. (Wally) Karper of Franklin Grove; seven grandchildren, Andrea Spurgeon, Stacy (John) Osborn, Dylan Spurgeon, Molly Spurgeon, Jason (Julie) Karper, Courtney Short, and Ashley Short; and four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Josiah, Levi, and Rebekah.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jimmy Wayne Spurgeon; and four brothers, Eldon, Glendon, Dean, and Carl.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Northside Baptist Church, 598 River Lane, Dixon. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s honor to the benefit for Dylan Spurgeon to help his fight against muscular dystrophy, in care of any First National Bank in Amboy location.
