John D. Knapp

  John D. Knapp Sr., 71, of Dixon, passed away at 5:34 AM Sunday (July 19, 2015) at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford.

  He was born April 12, 1944 in Oelwein, Iowa to John & Patricia (Wiles) Knapp.  He married the former Diann Stewart on February 21, 1974 in Dixon.  She survives.

  He is also survived by his children:  Patty (Travis Reynolds) Knapp of Dixon, John D. Knapp Jr. of Rochelle; a grandson:  John D. Knapp III and a granddaughter on the way, Jordan Patricia Pauline Reynolds; an adopted daughter, Bambi Wilson; siblings:  Robert of California, Gary of Iowa, Greg, Terry, Thomas and Debbie; a stepsister Connie and step grandchildren:  Lucas & Logan.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers:  Mike, Mark & Steven.

  He served in the Seebee Unit in the United States Navy during Vietnam where he served 2 tours of duty.

  He had worked as an administrator at the Dixon Developmental Center and also as an administrator in Jacksonville, IL.

  He was a member of the Assembly of God House of Prayer Church in Sterling.  He loved to fish and camp and loved his family especially his grandson.  He devoted his life to helping people and was a devout Christian.  He won an award from the Parents Association in Chicago, IL for being best in state for taking care of his residents.

 Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday at the Full Gospel Assembly – House of Prayer Church in Sterling with Rev. Brian Desino officiating.

 A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon and also one hour prior to the services Friday at the church.

  Interment with full military rites by the combined Veterans organizations in Dixon will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

  Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warriors.
