John W Leonard

  John W. Leonard, 79, of Dixon, passed away at 4:24 PM Tuesday (March 17, 2015) at Kindred Hospital in Peoria.

  He retired as a journeyman machinist at Henry Pratt.

  He was born November 8, 1935 in Dixon to John Martin & Dolly (Overturf) Leonard.  He married the former Donna M. Rockwood.  She preceded him in death on January 10, 2015.

  He is survived by a daughter, Jan Wellman of Clinton; 2 grandchildren:  Jennifer (Dave) Schallert & Caryn (Coman) Streid; 3 great grandchildren:  Garren, Aryanna & Wil; and one sisters, Mary Ross of Phoenix, AZ.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; a son, Russel Leonard; a son-in-law, David Wellman and a sister Darlene.

  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

  A visitation will be held from Noon until 1 PM Tuesday at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon with services to follow at 1 PM at the funeral home.  Rev. Mike Taylor will officiate.

  Interment with full military rites by the Dixon combined veterans groups will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
