Keith Brickey

Keith Brickey, 81, of Bloomingdale, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of September 24, 2024.

Keith was the son of Curtis and Evelyn (Walter) Brickey. He is preceded in death by his loving husband, Dr. Louis Pointon, as well as three siblings, Karen Kreger, Lowell Brickey and Larry Brickey. Keith is survived by three wonderful sisters, Betty Bay, Kathryn (Kathy) Gerdes, and Peggy Dowding as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Keith’s life is a love story: Born on the family farm in Amboy, Illinois, Keith was surrounded by family who cherished and supported him. When he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age eighteen, the entire family changed their diet to accommodate his health needs. They taught him what love is. So when he met Lou in that sleazy bar in October of 1973, Keith knew love when he saw it. And with patience and understanding, Keith showed Lou what love is too.

Keith’s life is a success story: He went to work for Swift & Company the company that would eventually become Conagra at the very bottom as an office worker, while still milking cows on the family farm. With the support of his family, and his loving partner Lou, Keith rose through the company to become the Vice President of Customer Assurance, and lobbied congress on Conagra’s behalf.

Keith’s life was a story of adventure: As Keith showed Lou how to love, Lou introduced Keith to culture, music and the arts. Together they traveled all over the United States and Canada, and made nine trips to Eastern and Western Europe. They visited the Louvre in Paris, the Prado in Madrid, the Medici Chapel in Florence, the Wright Museum in Amsterdam, and many, many others. But their favorite was Vienna, Austria, where they stayed at the Sacher Hotel and dined at the Mozart Café. In their final years, before they went to bed, they would tell each other “I’ll see you at the Mozart.”

Keith and Lou are finally together again at the Mozart, waltzing in the streets to the Blue Danube.

A celebration of Keith’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 393 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, on Friday, October 4th at 11:00 am, with luncheon to follow.  Internment at Chapel Hills Cemetery, 1121 North Galena Avenue, Dixon, Illinois will occur in the spring of 2025.
