Leon Robert Kinn, age 96, of Dixon, died Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Dixon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Leon was born April 4, 1928 in Sterling, the son of Harry and Charlene Kinn. He attended Wallace School in Sterling and started 9th grade at Sterling High School. He married Betty Taylor on September 3, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 11, 1952. He later married Dolly Allen on August 17, 1956 at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dixon. Leon was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire, Medusa Cement Co., Lonestar Cement, and Dixon Marquette retiring on June 30, 1990. He was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dixon since June 25, 1950, where in the past, he was a deacon, councilman, usher, and co-Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of the Lee County Council of Aging and Sauk Valley Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Leon was one of the original band of brothers for Habitat for Humanity in Dixon.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly Kinn of Dixon; one sons, Gary (Sonja) Kinn of Franklin Grove; four grandchildren, Nathan (Brandy) Kinn, Benjamin (Kelly) Kinn, Joshua (Heidi) Kinn, and Rachel (Allen) Smart; fifteen great grandchildren, Samuel Kinn, Brooklyn Kinn, Alexander Kinn, Matthew Kinn, Logan Kinn, Chase Kinn, Rylan Kinn, Addyson Kinn, Ashton Kinn, Ayden Kinn, Madeline Sheehan, McKinley Sheehan, McGuire Sheehan, Marvel Smart, and Maverick Smart; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; parents; one son, Robert Kinn; three sisters, Leatrice Ramirez, Ellen Hicks, and Frances Kinn; and two brothers-in-law.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Jacob Appenzeller officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dixon.
