Margie E. (Johnson) Bonnewell

Margie E. Bonnewell, 78, of Dixon went to be with our Lord and Savior with her family by her side after a long and courageous battle fighting Cancer and Renal Failure on Friday at 5:06 AM (April 11, 2014) at her residence.

  She was born on February 3, 1936 in DeSmet, South Dakota to Gustave A. & Mamie J. (Johnson) Johnson.  She married Boyd L. “Barney” Bonnewell on Sept. 27, 1953 in Dixon.  He survives.

  She is also survived by her children:  April (Terry “Shawn”) Spencer of Dixon; Bobbi Darr (Louie Cecchetti) of Dixon, Curtis J. Bonnewell of Tempe, AZ and Brent E. (DeAnn) Bonnewell of Dixon; 4 grandchildren:  Creedence J. (Jami) Bonnewell of Dixon, Casey (David) Minker of Phoenix, AZ; George (Jennifer) Laughton of Peoria, AZ and BreAnn Helfrich of Dixon and several great grandchildren.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son:  Boyd “Butch” Bonnewell Jr.; and her siblings:  Russell Johnson, Dorothy Schier, Arthur Johnson, Clifford Johnson, Ralph Johnson, Dean Johnson and Laverne “Boob” Johnson.

  She and her husband formerly owned and operated the Mecca Inn and the Cottage Inn, both in Dixon.

  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dixon.

  A visitation will be held from 10 AM – Noon on Monday at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, in Dixon.

  Funeral services will be held at Noon at the funeral home with Rev. Janet Wittenmyer officiating.

  Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

  Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
