Marion G. Butterfield, 95, of Sterling and formerly of Dixon passed away Friday August 1, 2014 at 5:10 AM at Coventry Living Center in Sterling.
She was born on January 6, 1919 in Chicago to Percy & Mary (Hill) Glessner. She married George E. Butterfield on September 4, 1939 in Harmon, IL. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters: Cheryl (Larry) Buffington of Milledgeville and Gayle (Tim) Westerberg of Dillon, CO; 5 grandchildren: Deanna Millhouse, Brad Buffington, Daniel Johnson, Mackenzie Jones and McCabe Jones; 2 great grandchildren Lara & Nicholas Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; 3 step grandchildren: Wendy (Matt) Schwartz, Brian (Katie) Westerberg and Rachel (Jeremy) Hurshman and 4 step great-grandchildren: Sadie & Abigail Schwartz and Talley & Drue Westerberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a daughter, Janet Hanson; one sister, Janet Peaslee and one brother, Wendell Glessner.
She graduated from Eldena Grade School and Dixon High School.
She had been employed by the Freeman Shoe Company during World War II and had been an administrative assistant at the Lee County Tuberculosis Office.
In addition to enjoying her work, Marion was committed to her family and loved to cook and entertain for family holidays and events. She also served as an election judge, and volunteered in the local elementary schools.
A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon with services to follow at 11:00 AM. Rev. Steve Casey will officiate.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Dixon Veterans Memorial, Hospice of the Rock River Valley or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
