R. Sloter Obituary

 R. Maxine Sloter, age 94, of Dixon, died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Maxine was born December 9, 1927 in Nashville, IN, the daughter of Lewis and Alta (Galyan) Masters.  She married Ed Sloter on December 2, 1942 in Missouri.  He preceded her in death on April 14, 1997.  Maxine and Ed were dairy farmers for many years and later in the 1970's they owned the Victory Cafe, south of Dixon. Maxine also co-owned a resale shop with her daughter Peggy. She was very well known for her homemade caramels.

She is survived by sister Annabelle (Leslie) Mobley, Bloomington, IN; six children: Billie (William) May, Waldo, WI, John Sloter, Dixon; Marlene (Charles) Reese, Dixon; Ruth Ann Leffelman, Dixon; Peggy (Francis) Fenwick, Dixon; and Kathy (Bob) Addleman, Thompson Falls, MT. Fifteen grandchildren: Bob (Tina) Black, Crystal Falls, MI; Mark Black, Rockford, IL; Bill (Jodi) May Jr., Stafford, VA; Stephanie May, Eagle, WI; Chris Sheridan, Dixon; Ed Sloter, Dixon; Ken Sloter, Dixon; Anita Metzen, Marseilles, IL; Jamie (Jason) Wood, Bloomington, IL; Julie (Tony) Ross, San Antonio, TX; Kevin (Bekah) Fenwick, Dixon; Scott (Jordyn) Fenwick, Dixon; Amy Fenwick, Madison, WI; Michele Aurand, Macomb, IL; and Natalie (Justin Martin) Bodmer, Andalusia, IL; twelve great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant son Edward Sloter Jr., daughter Norma Black, brothers Dale, Wilbur, Robert, and Clarence Masters; sister Wanda Steder, granddaughter Debra Black, and great-grandson Nickolas Black.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon with the service following at 1:00 PM.  Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

 Special thanks to the staff at KSB Hospital, and OSF St. Anthony's Medical Center staff, Rockford, IL for their kindness and exceptional care they gave to Maxine and family.  A heartfelt appreciation especially goes to everyone at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for taking such good care of her for the last 6 years.
