Richard “Corky” Eugene Herbon
Richard “Corky” Eugene Herbon, age 78, of Dixon, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.
Richard was born July 27, 1941 in Sterling the son of Albert and Gladys (Hanson) Herbon. He served in the United States Navy from 1958-1962 and 1964-1969. Richard was a 52 year member of American Legion Post 12 having served 52 years, both as Commander and Chief De Gare of the 40&8. He also was a “paid up for life” member of the VFW and The Disabled American Veterans and was totally involved in the Veterans Memorial Park for 19 years. Richard married Sandra Gill in July of 1979 and was a member of the Local #25 Plumbers and Pipefitters for 39 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Dawn Herbon Maloney, Brenda Marie Herbon Skendzel and Debra Durband Echelberger; three granddaughters, Jacey Ralyn Maloney, Kady Leann Maloney and Keira Rae Skendzel; one grandson, Chanler Echelberger; and one son-in-law, Leo Anthony Maloney.
He was preceded by his wife, Sandra Herbon on August 5, 2017; his parents; two brothers, Robert Herbon and Donald Herbon; and two sisters, Barbara Moritz and Patricia Baugh.
Visitation will be Friday, August 16, 2019 from 10:00 – Noon at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be Friday at Noon at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Bentz of Northside Baptist Church in Dixon officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 S. IL Route 2, Oregon, IL 61061 and the Veterans Memorial Park, P.O. Box 591, Dixon, IL 61021.
