Richard K Utz

DIXON- Richard K. Utz 92, of Dixon, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.

Richard was born on July 23, 1924 in Dixon, the son of Ira and Mary Krug-Utz.  He married Joan Whitlow on November 2, 1946 in Dixon.  She precedes him in death.

Surviving are three children, Terry (Kathy) Utz, Todd Utz, and Pam Martinez; his loving companion of fifteen years, Liz Huffstutler; four grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Richard, and Daniel; four great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Victoria, and Zeke; and one sister, Garland Myers. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one brother, Kenneth Utz.

Richard was a US Navy Veteran.  He served his country proudly during WWII on theU.S.S. Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific.  

After his time in the Navy, Richard worked as a carpenter for Lindquist Construction and later for Prescott Construction in Sterling where he retired at the age of 72.  During his career, he was a member of the Carpenters Local.

Richard had a love for his church, and spent many hours working there.  He also often volunteered his time working with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and driving local veterans to their appointments in Iowa and Wisconsin.

Richard will be fondly remembered as a loving and caring husband, companion, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many.  He was hardworking, and very proud of his family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 1121 N. Galena Ave., Dixon, IL.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Bunyan Cocar and Pastor David Schweppe officiating.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

Memorial contributions may be made in Richards honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
