Robert L. Glessner

September 13, 1924 ~ July 6, 2015 (age 90) 90 Years Old

  Robert L.  Glessner, 90, of Franklin Grove, IL, formerly of Eldena died Monday (July 6, 2015) at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. 

  He was born September 13, 1924 in Dixon, IL, the son of Leroy C. and Grace E. (McGlaughlin) Glessner. 

  Following graduation from Amboy High School he was employed at the Green River Ordnance Plant until he entered the military.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1946, with 19 months in overseas duty in the European Sector. 

  He married Elfreda L. Tholen on March 29, 1947. 

  He operated Glessner Bros. Wholesale until its closing in 1964.  He then worked for the Admiral Corp. until 1969.  He retired in 1987 from Advance Products Company of Rockford after 17 years as a Sales Rep.   

  He was a member of the American Legion Post #453 Amboy, and the Dixon Elks Lodge #779.  

  Survivors include his daughter Deborah (Butch) Burgett of Franklin Grove, IL; two grandchildren:  Kris (Bob) Bass of Franklin Grove and Chad Burgett of Boise ID. and four great grandchildren, Brandon, Haley, Zack and Katelyn. 

  He was preceded in death by his wife Elfreda, son Greg Glessner, and brothers Fred and Harold Glessner.

  Cremation rights have been accorded.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday (July 16, 2015) at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon .  Rev. Vincent Marrandino, Chaplain of K.S.B. Hospital will officiate.  Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon with full military rites by the Combined Veterans Organizations.

   In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Dixon Veteran Memorial Park.
