Robert "Bob" W. Schmidt

FRANKLIN GROVE – Robert W. "Bob" Schmidt, 89, formerly of Harmon, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. His wife of 67 years, to the day, was at his side at The Meadows of Franklin Grove.Bob was born July 17, 1927, in Dixon, the son of Arthur C. and Wilma (Krafock) Schmidt. He was a graduate of Dixon High School, Class of 1945. Upon graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps. He served in Japan and the Philippine Islands until the war ended. He completed his service with the military in 1947.

Bob married Ida Marie Schaefer on Sept. 23, 1949, in Harmon. He was employed at Reynolds Wire, and later at Medusa Portland Cement Plant, both in Dixon. He always made it a point to take yearly family vacations, and enjoyed special fishing trips with his sons.

Survivors include his wife of Franklin Grove; four sons, Edward R. (Georgia) of Dixon, Roger W. (Mindy) of Lena, Raymond C. (Meg) of Dixon, and Arthur H. (Jackie) of Dixon; his sister, Marilyn Smallwood of Harmon; nine grandchildren, Karen (Bill) Stauffer, Angie (Eric) Meier, Mike (Lisa) Schmidt, Rob (Jen) Schmidt, Laura (Siza) Mtimbiri, Kevin Schmidt, Karla (Roger) Dickson, Jennifer (Aaron) Ragusa, and Kayla (Mike) Bellows; and 14 great-grandchildren, Kelly and Abby Stauffer, Carson and Kendall Meier, Demetrio Velazco and Chloe Jean Schmidt, Clara and Anna Schmidt, Raymond and Alex Mtimbiri, Bradley Schmidt, Kaylee and Amelia Ragusa, and Grayson Bellows.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and stillborn great-granddaughter, Verity Ann Mtimbiri.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon, with Pastor Sandi Graver, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
