Shirley Raney Obituary

Shirley Esther Raney, age 80, passed away March 13, 2023, at Aperion Care Center in DeKalb, Illinois.  She was born September 14, 1942, in Dixon, Illinois to Harold and Minnie (Gottel) Ringler.

Shirley graduated from Dixon High School.  She grew up on the farm and continued to live there as an adult.  She said you can take the girl off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the girl.

She married Donald Raney on June 19, 1965.  They moved from Dixon to DeKalb after the death of her father and have lived there for 36 years.  Shirley loved decorating her home for the seasons and holidays making it cheerful.  She was a helpful, caring neighbor and friend who often shared with them her wonderful desserts.

Her dogs brought her much enjoyment over the years and were very much a part of the family.

Shirley is survived by her husband Donald with whom she was married 57 years and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her brother LeRoy Ringler.

She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, and her service will be held there at 2:30, Saturday afternoon, March 18th.  Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 1:00.

Memorial gifts may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Special thanks are extended to Pastor Dave Schweppe for his prayers and visits, the medical professionals who gave her dedicated care, and all the family and friends who visited, called,  and assisted Shirley in recent years allowing her to remain in her home.  Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
