Thomas Raymond Cox passed away on April 23, 2023 at KSB Hospital after a long battle with kidney disease and COVID pneumonia complications. He was born May 30, 1944 at KSB Hospital to Edmund R. and Alice Marie (Johns) Cox. Tom attended Polo schools and then enlisted in the Army. He was spent seven years in the US Army; going to South Korea, where he met and married Kim (Kwi) Cox. They celebrated 50 years together and adopted three children. A son, Bobby Cox lives in Rock Falls, IL. Two daughters: Kwang Mi Turner lives in Rockford, IL and Kwang Su Kim, who resides in South Korea. Also a nephew, Young Shik Kim and wife Kelly and family, live in Rockford, IL. Tom has four siblings: sisters, Pat Levan of Dixon, IL, Joan Koenig of Janesville, Wisc., Nancy Parke of Polo, IL and Margie Shore of Woosung, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and a brother, Ed.
Tom worked and retired from the Sterling Steel Mill. He loved gardening and coffee clutches with his brother and sisters and their families. Tom was known as a very generous man. He loved giving flowers and gifts to people he held dear to his heart.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Polo Senior Center.
Memorials have been established to the National Kidney Foundation and the Polo Senior Center.
