Tressa L. Willstead-Sheely, 93, of Polo, IL passed away at 5:25 PM Wednesday at her residence.
She was born on January 20, 1920 in Smithfield, IL to Fred & Vina (Dick) Orwig. She married Kenneth Willstead on February 6, 1939 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1979. She then married Raymond Sheely in September of 1980. He preceded her in death in October of 2005.
She is survived by daughters: Nelda (Ronald) Bergsten of Whitewater, WI, Merla (Bill) Brooks of Marble Hill, MO, Florence Wragg of Polo and Paula (Gene) Schick of Warren, IL; 9 grandchildren: 17 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and one sister, Alice (Leroy) Riley of Canton, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; 2 sisters: Martha and Pauline and 2brothers, Charles & Richard.
She was educated in Cuba, IL schools and was a homemaker and farmers wife. She was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, had served at the Second Hand Rose, The Buffalo Grange, the Polo Senior Center, the Polo Historical Society and the Ogle County Homemakers. Tressa was a devoted mother to her children. She was gifted with the ability to do counted crosss-stitch, winning many first place ribbons at the State Grange. She also made over 800 lap quilts for local nursing homes.
Private graveside services have been held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, IL. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday (November 10, 2013) at the Pine Creek Christian Church on Lowell Park Road. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. The Rev. Greg Downs will officiate. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Dixon is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Pine Creek Christian Church, the Polo Senior Center or the Polo Historical Society.
