Wanda N. Mitchell, 89, of Mahomet, a former Champaign resident for 40 years passed away at 6:30 PM Monday (December 7, 2015) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was born on July 18, 1926 in Fisher, IL to Chester and Velma (Lester) Beasley.
She is survived by her daughters: Vicki (Michael) Hohf of Waukegan, IL and Becky (James) Baker of Bloomington, IL; 4 grandchildren: David Hohf, Alexandra Rodriguez, Mitchell Baker and Barbara Baker; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Delores) Beasley of Wetumpka, AL and a sister, Barbara Bernett of Quincy, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Wanda graduated from Fisher High School and then obtained her R.N. in nurses training at Burnham City Hospital. She had worked for the Gibson City Hospital and retired from Carle Hospital as an R.N.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Champaign and the Burnham City Alumni Association.
She loved to travel and loved interior design. Wanda was a very generous person to family and friends. She was known as a consummate hostess who loved to cook and bake.
A visitation will be held from Noon until 1 PM Saturday (Dec. 12, 2015) at her church, The First United Methodist Church Downtown located at 210 W. Church St. in Champaign. Funeral services will follow at 1 PM at the church with the Rev. Tom Corum officiating and will also conduct interment rites at the Mt. Hope Mausoleum where Wanda will be entombed.
The Mittendorf-Calvert Funeral Home in Champaign is in charge of the arrangements.
